Of the 433 students at Argyle Intermediate School in Argyle, 246 (57%) weren’t on track for college in the 2023-24 school year, according to North Texas News’ analysis of STAAR scores from the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
The TEA considers students to be on track for college if they demonstrate mastery of the course content through the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR). Students who meet, but do not master their grade level are “prepared to progress to the next grade,” but not yet on college track.
In the 2023-24 school year, Argyle Intermediate School’s student population was made up of 433 students, of which 248 were white, 75 Asian, 71 Hispanic, 23 multiracial, 13 African American, and three American Indian students.
Data shows that 72% of Argyle Intermediate School’s Asian students (54), 66.7% of its American Indian students (2), 41.9% of its white students (104), 26.1% of its multiracial students (6) and 23.1% of its African American students (3) had “mastered” their grade level that year and were “on track for college and career readiness,” as measured by state academic standards.
