Andy Hopper, a Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives for District 64, has used his social media platform to comment on recent developments during a special legislative session. In several posts published on August 15 and 16, 2025, Hopper addressed actions taken by Democratic lawmakers and the response from House leadership.

On August 15, Hopper posted: “This special session has taken quite a turn. Democrats might run away from our great state and their responsibilities, but I am here to stay and make your voice heard in our Texas House.”

Later that day, he added: “House Conservatives have made it clear that there must be painful/career-ending consequences for dems who abandoned their post. It has been our hope that leadership was taking this situation seriously.

This reveals a profoundly unserious attitude which will convey no lessons to”

On August 16, Hopper shared an article related to proposed legislation by Representative Briscoe Cain: “Great article by @BethanyBlankley regarding @BriscoeCain’s bill that would vacate seats of reps who abandon their post for 7 days.

From the article:
State Rep. Andy Hopper, R-Decatur, said when the House reconvenes and they reach quorum, ‘House Conservatives must stand firmly”

The tweets refer to ongoing disputes within the Texas Legislature over attendance during special sessions. Historically, walkouts by legislators have been used as a tactic to deny quorum and block legislative action. The referenced bill by Briscoe Cain seeks to address this by proposing automatic seat vacancies if representatives are absent without leave for seven days.

Hopper was elected in 2025 to represent Texas’ 64th House district after succeeding Lynn Stucky.
