Matt Shaheen, a Republican member of the Texas State House representing the 66th district since 2015, used his social media platform on August 4, 2025, to comment on several ongoing political issues in Texas.
In an early morning post, Shaheen criticized Democratic legislators for their absence from legislative duties. On August 4, he wrote: “Tomorrow morning millions of Texans will go to work & do the job they promised to do, but not Derelict Democrats. They have abandoned their constituents & will suffer the consequences. #txlege https://t.co/yoncaDm5uY”.
Later that day, Shaheen referenced statements made by Governor Abbott regarding absent Democratic members of the Texas House. At 03:09 UTC on August 4, he posted: “Governor Abbott states he will remove Derelict Democrat House members from membership in the Texas House, if they do not return when the House reconvenes at 3PM on Monday, August 4. #txlege https://t.co/Inxh5wcKAD”.
In a subsequent post later that afternoon, Shaheen addressed concerns about Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), criticizing its funding model and cooperation with state and local entities. He stated: “DART continues its disastrous funding structure & refuses to work w/ the TX Legislature or member cities. Today I have refiled legislation to fix their failed funding model. https://t.co/A4ewTKDdfw”.
Shaheen has served as a state representative since being elected in 2015 after replacing Van Taylor in Texas’s 66th district.
