Matt Shaheen, a Republican member of the Texas State House representing the 66th district since 2015, made several statements on social media in August 2025 criticizing Democratic lawmakers and the press.

On August 18, 2025, Shaheen posted: “We aren’t playing around. Each Democrat who abandoned their constituents are now under 24 hour DPS surveillance. If they resist they are locked in the House Chambers.”

Two days later, on August 20, he commented on media coverage by stating: “The press is a worthless extension of the failed liberal Democrat Party.”

Later that same day, Shaheen further criticized his political opponents with another post: “The Democrat Party must address its systemic hate & growing tendency towards violence.”

Shaheen has represented Texas’s 66th House district since his election in 2015, succeeding Van Taylor. As a state legislator, he has been an outspoken member of the Republican party.
