Matt Shaheen, a Republican member of the Texas State House representing the 66th district since 2015, has recently posted several statements on social media addressing ongoing political disputes in Texas.
On August 11, 2025, Shaheen claimed that “Democrats oppose the Texas redistricting map because it gives the Hispanic community a bigger voice.” In another post later that day, he criticized Democratic lawmakers for their actions regarding flood relief efforts: “Democrats continue to obstruct import flood relief work needed in Texas, what an incredible betrayal not showing up for work! Derelict Democrats will be forced to pay the costs of these delays, including the use of law enforcement for their own arrests. #txlege”
In a third statement on August 11, Shaheen addressed issues related to religious views and marriage laws: “Liberal Democrat extremists had a woman jailed for her biblical views on marriage. Obergefell needs to be overturned.”
Shaheen has served in the Texas State House since his election in 2015 after succeeding Van Taylor. His recent posts reflect ongoing partisan tensions over legislative processes and cultural debates within the state.
