Matt Shaheen, a Republican member of the Texas State House representing the 66th district since 2015, posted a series of tweets in late January 2026 reflecting on historical events and commemorations.

On January 26, 2026, Shaheen noted the anniversary of the adoption of the Texas state flag by sharing: “The Lone Star Flag was officially adopted by the Republic of Texas on January 25, 1839.”

A day later, on January 27, he posted a brief message stating: “Praise God!”

On January 28, Shaheen acknowledged International Holocaust Remembrance Day with a tweet that read: “We pause for International Holocaust Remembrance Day, in memory of the victims of the holocaust.”

Shaheen has served in his current role since succeeding Van Taylor in 2015. The Lone Star Flag referenced in his post became an official symbol during the era when Texas was an independent republic before joining the United States. International Holocaust Remembrance Day is observed annually to honor and remember those who suffered under Nazi persecution.
