The United Way of Denton County will receive $333,410 from the County Commissioners Court to help residents with rent payments, food and health care.
The commissioners previously allocated $735,000 for the United Way’s COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Fund in April, the Cross Timbers Gazette reported. The Denton County Commissioners Court used funds received through the federal CARES Act for both gifts, the newspaper said.
The United Way’s relief and recovery fund helps individuals and families hurt by lost income caused by the coronavirus pandemic with financial assistance.
“Providing real relief to our county residents who have struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic continues to be our main goal.,” Denton County Judge Andy Eads told the Cross Timbers Gazetta.
The United Way will use the funds from the county to help 13 nonprofit partners that provide food, rent and other relief to fulfill grant requests.
Funds from the United Way have paid $340,000 for utilities and rent for Denton County residents to prevent their eviction, the newspaper said. Overall, the United Way of ADenton County has issued more than $1.5 million in donations through its COVID-19 Relief & Recovery Fund.
