Denton County businesses impacted by COVID-19 have until July 6 to apply for the second phase of the county’s Operational Plan for Economic Normalization (OPEN) business grant program.

The Denton County Commissioners Court is using $20 million in funding the county received from the CARES Act to provide small businesses with grants up to $50,000, according to the Denton County government website.

Businesses with 100 or fewer full-time employees are eligible for grants based on their documented negative financial impacts of the coronavirus. Grants can be used for a variety of purposes including payroll costs, rent or lease payments for business properties, utility payments for business properties, critical business operations costs, and personal protective equipment.

“The intent is to issue grants as quickly as possible,” the Denton County website states.

Businesses that received Payroll Protection Program funding are eligible for the OPEN grants.
