MATTHEW DEGRANDPRE JOINS TWU GYMNASTICS STAFF

Matthew DeGrandpre, a former college gymnast and graduate assistant coach, was announced as the new assistant coach for the Texas Woman's University gymnastics team on Monday, June 6.

 

"I am extremely excited to begin coaching at TWU," DeGrandpre said. "Having the opportunity to help continue the success Lisa and Kristen have built for the program is an amazing opportunity. The positive culture of the team is one I am ecstatic to be joining."  

 

DeGrandpre competed for the men's gymnastics team at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. In May 2020, he graduated from Springfield with a Bachelor of Science in Movement and Sports Studies with a concentration in physical and health education.

 

After graduating from Springfield with his bachelor's degree, he remained at Springfield to serve as a graduate assistant, which showcases his experience with collegiate coaching. As a graduate assistant, DeGrandpre helped plan practices, construct routines and maintain equipment. All these skills will help him make an immediate impact on TWU gymnastics.

While serving as a graduate assistant, DeGrandpre earned his Masters of Education in Physical Education with a concentration in athletic administration.

 

DeGrandpre brings five years of experience coaching girls' gymnastics at Roots Gymnastics Center in Westfield, Massachusetts. As an assistant team coach, he coordinated practices and helped guide level three through level 10 and xcel teams to growth and success in gymnastics.

 

A USAG Academic All-American – DeGrandpre also served as an adjunct professor at Springfield College, teaching Exploring Wellness Thru Movement and Education Gymnastics. He showcases a passion for health and wellness within the process of training successful gymnasts.

 

DeGrandpre also has a wealth of experience in leadership opportunities by leading gymnastics summer camps, including Lake Murray Summer Camp, Navy Sports Camp and United States Gymnastics Training Center.

 

DeGrandpre said he is excited to assist in the championship pedigree of TWU gymnastics and continue to grow as a coach.

 

"I cannot wait to begin working with our student-athletes to continue the success of the gymnastics program both in the classroom and the competition floor," DeGrandpre said. "I look forward to working with members of the TWU community to continue the deeply rooted traditions of the university. Go Pioneers!"

With his strength of experience and passion for gymnastics, TWU Gymnastics head coach Lisa Bowerman said DeGrandpre will immediately contribute to the success the Pioneers program.

"I am thrilled to welcome Matt to TWU," Bowerman said. "He will make an immediate positive impact on our program. He brings strong character and work ethic and will use his experiences as a student-athlete and coach to help our student-athletes grow and reach their goals. Matt has demonstrated his passion and determination in all he has already accomplished as a professional, and will no doubt bring these things into his new role as assistant coach for the Pioneers."
