Texas A&M Forest Service Announces Emerald Ash Borer Presence in Dallas and Wise Counties
The presence of the Emerald Ash Borer has been confirmed in Dallas and Wise Counties.
The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an exotic, invasive wood boring insect known to kill ash trees within two or three years of initial infestation. Signs of EAB infestation include leafy shoots from the tree's trunk, dead branches near the top, and split bark that can reveal larval galleries.
Once the presence of EAB is confirmed, the Texas Department of Agriculture establishes a mandatory quarantine which includes restricting the movement of any woody ash material. The quarantine is designed to help slow the spread of the EAB, which is unintentionally transported on firewood or wood products.
Texas Counties currently under quarantine include Bowie, Cass, Dallas, Denton, Harrison, Marion, Wise, Parker and Tarrant.
