Soccer Suffers First Loss

The North Texas women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday night with a 3-2 defeat at home against Oklahoma.

It is only UNT's third home loss in its last 46 home matches.

"It'll be a learning experience for us," said senior Madi Drenowatz who scored both of the Mean Green's two goals on the night. "We have to be better starts."

Oklahoma (1-2-1) got on the scoreboard first Thursday night and early. The Sooners were awarded a penalty kick in the 6th minute, which they converted. However, just 23 seconds later North Texas (4-1-0) tied the match up with an unassisted goal by Drenowatz.

The match was high paced from there on out and OU took the lead again less than five minutes after Drenowatz's equalizer.

Oklahoma held its one-goal lead into halftime and then in the 63rd minute added another goal after misscommunication by the UNT defense allowed an OU player to be unmarked and have an open look at net.

But once again the Mean Green quickly responded with another Drenowatz goal, this one just three minutes and six seconds later.

The physical match continued late, with two yellow cards handed out in the final 20 minutes — five total — but no equalizer from UNT.

North Texas will regroup and remain home as they host Texas State Sunday night at 7 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
