Down in the valley, Texas Woman's wrestling competed in the largest collegiate women's wrestling event in the nation. The Missouri Valley Open was home to over 50 programs, ranging from different divisions and conferences with over 500 wrestlers.
Of the 15 Pioneers that competed, six registered team points. Kira Phillips wrestled in the 136 weight class and totaled 7.5 team points. Phillips was taken down by a technical fall in the third round.
Brooke Zejda, Jermariah Ferguson, and Sheanareial Miller all tallied 2.5 points from the mat, followed by Angelina Archuleta who faced off against her teammate Faith Perez and won by fall over. Archuleta registered 4.5 points after making it to the fourth round of consolation.
Aubrey Yauger started off the tournament in eighth place and made it to the second round, only to fall to Sydnee Kimber of McKendree by a technical fall. In the seventh place consolation match, Yauger faced off against Jayleen Sekona of Colorado Mesa University. An 8-3 decision favored Sekona. Yauger tallied 13 points in total to close the tournament.
Before the holiday's the Pioneers will be hitting the mat against Colorado Mesa on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena.
