Following a season-high weekend and incredible accomplishments by Texas Woman's gymnastics, two Pioneers, Maddie Griffith and Steelie King, were selected for Midwest Independent Conference weekly awards.

A senior from Naperville, Illinois, Griffith scored a 9.750 or higher on both the vault and uneven bars at the Pioneers' two meets this past week. On vault against Southeast Missouri State (SEMO) on Jan. 27, Griffith soared to lead the Pioneers with a career-high 9.850.

Her former career-high mark, a 9.800, was set at the USAG Championships during the 2021 season.

Griffith's career-high vault was honored as the MIC Performance of the Week. The honor represents Griffith's second of her career.

Also at SEMO, Griffith led TWU on bars with a 9.800. Aiding in leading the Pioneers to their season-high of a 194.350 at Lindenwood, Griffith scored a 9.750 on vault and bars.

"What an incredible performance by Maddie," TWU Head Coach Lisa Bowerman said. "I'm so proud of how she continually steps up for her team, and I love seeing her continue to get better and better even in her senior season."

After missing the start of the season with an injury, junior King returned to the beam lineup this week. King debuted in the exhibition spot against SEMO. Then, she returned to the lineup in the anchor spot for the Pioneers on Sunday, Jan. 29 at Lindenwood.

King was a mainstay in the bars and beam lineup and even competed on vault six times for the Pioneers last season.

For her resiliency and perseverance to return, King received the Coaches Choice Award for this Week. King becomes the second Pioneer to receive this award this season.

"It was so wonderful to see Steelie be able to step right back into line-up and to see how her intentional work and preparation throughout this injury is paying off," Bowerman said.

The Pioneers will be at home for their next meet on Sunday, Feb. 5. They will host Iowa State and New Hampshire at 2 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena.
