Supported by Allen EDC, Omnilife chooses Allen for US headquarters
Allen will soon be the US home base for Omnilife USA Inc., a global leader in the manufacture, marketing and distribution of nutritional supplements and other health products.
In February, Omnilife celebrated the upcoming construction of its US headquarters and distribution center in Prodigy Park, located near State Highway 121 and Watters Road. The facility is expected to open in 2024 and will employ up to 140 people.
Late founder Jorge Vergara launched his first nutritional product, Omnitrition, in 1991 and spent more than 25 years leading Omnilife’s international growth. The company now employs 3,000 people worldwide from its base in Guadalajara, Mexico. When it came time to put down roots in the US, Omnilife leaders were attracted to Allen for its easy highway access, proximity to Dallas and McKinney airports and strong reputation as a good partner for businesses. The company also surveyed Omnilife employees to help choose the best spot for the new headquarters; Allen’s central location and cost of living shot it to the top of the list.Allen Economic Development Corporation (EDC) helped pair the company with a local developer, Heady Investment, which owned the site in Prodigy Park. Nestled between Cottonwood Creek Church and Lifetime Fitness, the 83,000 square-foot facility will significantly increase the value of the formerly vacant land. The project also creates a new source of tax revenue which supports City services, decreases the property tax burden on homeowners and fulfils the mission of Allen EDC."We are delighted to have Omnilife USA Inc join the Allen business community,” said Dan Bowman, Executive Director of the Allen Economic Development Corporation. “This first-class facility is perfectly located to drive their expansion and enable better service across not only the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex, but also Texas and the entire US." Funded by a half-cent sales tax, Allen Economic Development Corporation has helped create 18,000 Allen jobs and add $46 billion to the local and regional economy since its creation in 1992, according to an independent study by Insight Research.
