Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Vice Chairman of the House Rules Committee, stood with Texas police and sheriffs by voting to pass H.R. 2494 - POLICE Act of 2023, H.R. 3091 - Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act, and H. Con. Res. 40, a resolution honoring local police officers.

“Since 1962, Congress has honored law enforcement by recognizing National Police week,” said Burgess. “The bills brought before Congress this week affirm House Republicans’ support and commitment to our law enforcement. Particularly at a time when some members of Congress are criticizing and calling to defund this heroic profession. Every day, thousands of law enforcement officers across the United States selflessly put their lives on the line to protect their communities and fellow citizens. It is important that we always recognize and honor the noble sacrifices of these men and women.”
