Washington, D.C. - Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Chairman of the Rules Committee, recently hosted and delivered opening remarks at the annual Emergency Preparedness Summit and Fair in Hickory Creek, Texas. The event aimed to educate Texans on preparing for severe weather and unexpected emergencies in North Texas. Joining Congressman Burgess were emergency professionals from various agencies and officials at local, state, and federal levels.
Reflecting on the event, Congressman Burgess stated, "Today was a great day of learning different ways our community can prepare for and respond to any emergency that may impact North Texas. For the past 16 years, it has been important to host the Emergency Preparedness Summit & Fair. I have witnessed the tremendous benefits of these events for Texans. I want to express my appreciation to the Hickory Creek emergency professionals for providing this opportunity to our community and educating us on ways to protect the safety and wellbeing of our families."
Families had the opportunity to explore the "Touch the Truck" displays, showcasing vehicles and boats used by emergency departments and agencies. Informational sessions and briefings were conducted by panelists, including experts from the National Weather Service and local broadcast meteorologists, who presented on "Making Sense of the North Texas Weather."
Additionally, the event featured "Salute Our First Responders" artwork by Lake Dallas ISD elementary students, honoring the dedication and service of first responders in the community. The Emergency Preparedness Summit and Fair served as a valuable platform for residents to learn, engage, and enhance their preparedness for any potential emergencies in North Texas.
