Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, released a statement following the resignation announcement of U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.
"Kimberly Cheatle, as head of the U.S. Secret Service, had one job! Under her leadership, the failure of the Secret Service in its sole mission to protect the former President is a national disgrace and a national tragedy," said Chairman Burgess. "I welcome Kimberly Cheatle’s decision to resign rather than drag the nation and Congress through the process of removing her. Congress will work in a bipartisan manner to fully understand the facts and the failures to help ensure this kind of tragic breach never happens again. The American people demand and deserve answers."
