On November 21, 2024, Congressman Michael C. Burgess announced the winners of the 2024 Congressional App Challenge. The competition was open to students in middle and high school residing or attending school in Texas's 26th Congressional District.
The winning app, "StuFlo," was developed by Jayanth Annabhimoju and Aaditya Matampalli, seniors at Lone Star High School in Frisco ISD. "StuFlo" assists users with task tracking, note-taking, and brainstorming using an AI chatbot. Congressman Burgess praised their work: "It's no secret, Texan students are the most talented, skilled, and creative students in our nation."
Participants of this year's contest will receive a “Special Certificate of Congressional Recognition.” The challenge aims to encourage student involvement in STEM fields and inspire careers in computer science. Over 12,000 students nationwide participated this year.
As district winners, Annabhimoju and Matampalli will attend the #HouseOfCode Reception in Washington D.C. Their app will be displayed electronically in the U.S. Capitol for a year.
Entries came from various schools within Frisco ISD, Lewisville ISD, Prosper ISD, and the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science at UNT. A panel consisting of Maria-Kristina Hayden from OUTFOXM Inc., Bekah Sanchez from North Central Texas College, and Darrell Smith also from North Central Texas College reviewed submissions.
