After 22 years in Congress, Representative Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), has issued his final statement as the representative for Texas's 26th Congressional District. In his farewell message, Burgess reflected on his legislative achievements and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve.
"Having the opportunity to serve the 26th Congressional District of Texas for the past 22 years has been one of the greatest blessings of my life," he stated. Since joining Congress in 2003, Burgess has been a member of several key committees, including Transportation and Infrastructure, Energy and Commerce, Budget, and Rules Committees. He highlighted his efforts in securing funding for highway I-35E widening in Texas and passing legislation aimed at strengthening healthcare and energy systems.
During his tenure, Burgess made seven bills into law, introduced nearly 3,000 bills, and assisted over 14,861 constituents through casework. He also held numerous town halls to engage with constituents on pressing issues.
Burgess expressed appreciation for his colleagues and staff who supported him throughout his career. "Words cannot express the gratitude and the joy I am filled with from getting to know these wonderful people," he said.
As he steps down during the holiday season, Burgess encouraged people to value family relationships. "At the end of the day what matters is the relationships we build and uphold," he remarked.
He concluded by expressing love for his country: "I love the United States of America and hope others will see the legacy that I am leaving behind as a testament to that statement."
