City of Dallas issued the following announcement on May 22
Dallas Public Library (DPL) is helping you stay connected during COVID-19 by bringing the library experience right into your home! Staff is committed to providing more online programming and services, live book discussions, interactive programs and children’s activities. Library staff is also providing job seekers with additional assistance with resumes, job searches and employment resources.
To add a more personal touch, DPL librarians may call individuals ages 70 and up just to say ”hi” and ensure that they have the resources they need.
Things you can access from home:
Dallas Public Library has added hundreds of new downloadable eBooks and audiobooks, expanded the offerings in Hoopla to include audiobooks and comics, in addition to streaming movies, tv and music. Magazines are available through Flipster and Press Reader has global newspapers.
Whatever new projects you’ve decided to take on, the library has an online resource to help. Use Ancestry to research your family tree, or Rock’s Back Pages to learn more about your favorite music. The Hobbies & Crafts Resource Center is the perfect tool for picking up a new favorite pastime with how-to instructions included.
Resources for parents of school-age kids:
Dallas Public Library launched a self-directed learning program called SMART Kids at Home. Students ages 5 to 18 can complete at-home and online activities around science, math, art, reading and technology. When they complete a series, they earn a digital badge to track their progress. Sign up for SMART Kids at Home at dallaslibrary.beanstack.org.
