NCTC Drama announces the world premiere of The Island by NCTC faculty member, Thom Talbott-Garcia and directed by Missy Embrey, a member of the NCTC Drama faculty and Technical Director for the college on October 28 & 29 and November 3, 4, 5 at 7:30 PM & November 6 at 2:30 PM at the Denton Black Box Theater at the First State Bank Exchange - NCTC’s Denton Campus.
The Island takes the legend of Bluebeard and the story of Jack the Ripper and combines them into a phantasmagoria combination of gothic horror and science fiction set on the sinister shores of a South Pacific Island. The play blends live actors with shadow puppets to tell a story of madness and gore.
Missy Embrey had this to say about the production, “Women are capable. This show explores the multitudes of capabilities we have within us, and shatters the idea that women are only capable of ‘softness.’”
Cast in the production are both students and former students of NCTC, including Ames B., Percy Carrillo, A. Carroll, C. Cleveland, Victoria Smith, and Renea Stephens.
The production will be presented was part of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.
Tickets are $10 for adults and are available now at nctc.universitytickets.com. Seating is limited. The play is for mature audiences due to subject matter and language. For more information, contact the NCTC Drama department at (940) 668-3318.
