James Bernier, a parent from Denton, expressed support for school choice in Texas, advocating that parents should have the ability to choose where to send their children for education. He provided his statement to the North Texas News on February 18.

"Good Catholic teaching is the answer to all wokeness, liberalism, relativism, post modernism," said Patrick Steil, Parent from Denton TX. "The ideal would be that there are great Catholic schools and all parents have the choice to send their students there if they want. But regardless competition will always improve the education system."

According to ABC8News, Denton Independent School District (ISD) Superintendent Dr. Susannah Holbert-O’Bara said that the district is grappling with student population growth and limited funding. An example of this issue is Fred Hill Elementary, a new school that remains closed due to budget constraints. Despite the state legislature's failure to increase per-student funding since 2019, Denton ISD has experienced a 9% enrollment increase, resulting in decisions such as a hiring freeze that has left over 100 positions unfilled.

ABC8News also reported that Denton ISD has been involved in legal disputes over election-related advocacy, with two principals facing criminal charges for alleged election law violations.

NBC DFW News reports that Senate Bill 2 proposes a $1 billion voucher program designed to provide families with $10,000 per student annually for private school tuition and related expenses. Governor Greg Abbott supports this initiative, saying it empowers parents to select better educational options for their children. Although the bill has passed the Texas Senate, it faces challenges in the House where a coalition of rural Republicans and Democrats have historically opposed similar measures.

According to Texas Senate News, Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) allow parents to choose the educational path best suited for their child’s needs by directing public funds allocated for their child’s education towards private schools, charter schools, or homeschooling. This approach ensures that parents are not restricted to neighborhood public schools but can select schools aligning with their child's unique learning style and interests.

The website states that Denton ISD is a public school district in North Texas serving students across Denton, Corinth, and surrounding communities.
