Most power to the City’s water utility services has been restored by Oncor

Most power to the City’s water utility services has been restored by Oncor

Most power to the City’s water utility services has been restored by Oncor, allowing for all Richardson water customers to return to normal water use.

Power to Richardson’s pumping facilities was knocked out at 6:25 p.m. Thursday evening as severe weather passed through North Texas bringing high winds that caused regional power outages.

Oncor service teams quickly responded to the area and around 9:45 p.m. were able to restore enough power to Richardson’s water facilities to allow the City to begin pumping water to refill storage tanks. The system is now back to normal operating levels.

The City does have a backup power system designed to provide power in case of a widespread outage like the one experienced, but the system failed during the storm. The cause of the failure is being investigated.

The City thanks all of its water customers and Oncor for their understanding and support during this emergency.
