Washington, D.C. - Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Vice Chairman of the House Rules Committee and Chairman of the Budget Committee Health Care Task Force, emphasized the need for unity among the Texas delegation in selecting the next Speaker of the House. Speaking live from Norma's Café on Fox and Friends, Congressman Burgess addressed the ongoing funding battle and the importance of a cohesive approach in Congress.
"We [Members of Congress] reflect the country's people elect us. We represent our districts. If we appear divided in Congress, it's because the country is divided. Now, a good president would bring people together rather than split them apart," Congressman Burgess stated, highlighting the impact of national division on the functioning of Congress.
Turning his attention to the current administration's policies, Congressman Burgess expressed concerns about the effects of "Bidenomics" on the American people. "Unfortunately, this administration has been focused on splitting people apart. I've never seen the number of labor strikes going on at one time that we have now. Do you need any better proof that Bidenomics is not working for the average American?" he questioned.
However, the immediate focus for Congressman Burgess and the Texas delegation is the selection of the next Speaker of the House. "The bottom line is when we [the Texas delegation] come out of that meeting next Tuesday, we have to be unified. We all have to vote for our speaker. When we go to the floor, we can't have this 15 round stuff again. We've all got to be focused on getting a speaker back in there getting to work," emphasized Congressman Burgess.
The selection of a Speaker of the House holds significant importance in determining the direction and effectiveness of the legislative branch. Congressman Burgess's call for unity among the Texas delegation underscores the need for a cohesive and productive Congress.
