Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Vice Chairman of the House Rules Committee and Chairman of the Budget Committee Health Care Task Force, recently appeared on The Claman Countdown to discuss the speaker vote and the ongoing war in Israel.
During the interview, Congressman Burgess spoke about his support for Steve Scalise as the Speaker of the House. He said, "I voted for Steve Scalise, and we were fortunate to have two great people who are willing to step up and serve as speaker. But Steve carried the majority of the votes, and it's my expectation that we'll get on the floor of the House and confirm him as speaker with 217 Republican votes."
Moving on to the topic of the national debt, Congressman Burgess expressed his concern about its unsustainability. He stated, "Look, the debt that is the debt is unsustainable. That is what has led to the impasse in the house. Because of the degree of spending at the same time, you see that the United States cannot receive from the world stage the world needs us. Now more than ever."
Shifting his focus to funding for Israel, Congressman Burgess highlighted the efforts made by the House of Representatives. He pointed out, "I do need to point out that the House of Representatives had passed the defense appropriations bill and the Foreign Operations appropriations bill, both of which have significant money for Israel. They are sitting over in the Senate, ready to go. If the Senate would pick up and pass our bills, they could be on their way down to the President for signature before the sun goes down today."
Congressman Burgess emphasized the importance of swift action in addressing the funding for Israel, as the situation continues to unfold in the region. The House has already taken steps to support Israel through its appropriations bills, and it is now up to the Senate to act.
As the interview came to a close, Congressman Burgess reiterated his hopes for a successful confirmation of Steve Scalise as the Speaker of the House and urged the Senate to pass the necessary bills to provide funding for Israel. The congressman's insights shed light on the ongoing discussions and actions taking place in Congress regarding these critical matters.
In these uncertain times, it is crucial for lawmakers to come together and make decisions that will positively impact the nation and its allies. The discussions and actions surrounding the speaker vote and funding for Israel are just a part of the larger picture of the work being done in Congress to address pressing issues and ensure the well-being of the American people and their global partners.
