The City of Coppell will be working with the Texas Power Switch to help city residents with their electric bills.

According to a news release issued by the city, Texas Power Switch's program helps to lower electricity bills by doing group buying. It is run by iChoosr LLC and is licensed by the Public Utility Commission of Texas. The program works by allowing residents to join in groups to get lower rates. Energy providers are then asked to bid on the group's business.

The service is free and the city does not receive compensation for it. Those who switched to the 24-month plan in the last program are expected to save approximately $496 each year.

Participants have from Oct. 2 until Feb. 12 to switch to the winning provider after the auction is held.
