ALIX PIERCE NOMINATED FOR 2023 AAI AWARD

Every year, American Athletic, Inc or AAI awards the AAI Award to the most outstanding female gymnast in the nation.

This prestigious award is voted on by collegiate gymnastics coaches. Head coaches are asked to submit nominations, presenting gymnasts they feel go above and beyond in the gym, in the classroom and in the community.

For 2023, 39 gymnasts received the honor of being nominated for what is commonly referred to as the "Heisman Trophy for Women's Gymnastics."

Receiving TWU's nomination for this incredible award this year is senior Alix Pierce.

Pierce, from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, joined the Pioneers gymnastics team for the 2021 season, after competing for a year at Seattle Pacific University.

Prior to collegiate gymnastics, Pierce competed as a member of Team Saskatchewan at the Canada Winter Games in 2019 and earned a silver medal on floor.

In her three seasons at TWU, Pierce continually elevates her skills through hard work and a passion for the sport. More than her success in the gym, Pierce is committed to being a leader, serving her community, excelling in the classroom and being an advocate for social justice.

Her many accolades throughout her sophomore and junior seasons exemplify Pierce's drive to be thier best, and Pierce continues to shine in their senior season.

Pierce earned All-America honors on beam and floor in 2021 and was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American as well.

The next year, their junior season, Pierce was a mainstay on floor and beam. At the Midwest Independent Conference Championship meet, Pierce claimed the MIC Floor Individual Title, scoring a 9.875 on the event. Additionally, they continued to soar to incredible scores at the USA Gymnastics Championships, guiding TWU to their 12th USAG National Title.

Pierce's dedication to academics showed last year as well, as the Pioneers were named the Academic National Champions—posting the highest grade point average of any gymnastics program in the nation.

During Pierce's senior season, Pierce has set three career-highs—a 9.825 on bars, a 9.850 on beam and a 9.900 on floor. Pierce continues to lead the Pioneers as a consistent high-scorer and mainstay in three event lineups.

"We are so proud of all that Alix has accomplished both in and out of the gym," TWU Head Coach Lisa Bowerman said. "She is a phenomenal student, athlete, and leader on our campus and in our community."
