There were 154 American Indian students enrolled in Northwest ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 2% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Northwest ISD schools welcomed 29,248 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.5% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Northwest ISD roughly covers schools within Denton County and has a main office in Justin.

Among the 33 schools in Northwest ISD schools, Byron Nelson High School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 24 students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
