PIONEER SOFTBALL WINS IN FINAL DAY OF DII SPRING INVITATIONAL

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CONROE, Texas (Feb. 5, 2023) - Determined and eager for their first win, the Pioneers brought home a pair of wins in the final day of the DII Spring Invitational.

In their first game against Regis, the envelope was pushed to the eighth inning to seal their victory 2-3. Following their victory over Regis, the Pioneers stifled Pittsburg State to claim the final win of the tournament 3-0.

Alyssa LeBlanc (1-2) started on the mound for the Pioneers. The top of the first was short lived for the Rangers, as LeBlanc struck out two and a grounder to first base sealed the deal.

A single hit to the pitcher by Kennedy Marlow earned the Pioneers first base. Marlow stole two more bases before scoring a run for the Pioneers.

The Rangers made it on the board in the third inning after an error from the Pioneers tied the ball game.

The bottom of third kicked off with a single to left field from Tylar Lane, who scored the Pioneers second run of the game after LeBlanc doubled to center field.

The Rangers refused to let up and tied the game at the top of the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, Makana Morton doubled down left field. A pinch hit from Missy Wise to right field gave Morton the opportunity to bring it home for the Pioneers.

Unlike the last three games where the Pioneers scored early to take the lead, it wasn't until the sixth inning against Pittsburg State that the Pioneers scored all three runs.

In the bottom of the sixth, Lily Wilson took to first base after a walk. The Pioneers earned a pair of strikeouts, but Wilson stole second determined to score. After being hit by a pitch Alexys Ginegaw advanced to first. LeBlanc came out swinging and brought everyone home to register three runs to close the sixth inning and ultimately win the game.

Kelsie Briggs (1-1) opened the final game for the Pioneers and pitched seven innings.

Against Regis, LeBlanc, Wise, Morton, and Ciana Rodriguez led the Pioneers offensively. Followed by Ginegaw and Wilson in the final game against Pittsburg State.

The Pioneers will return to Dianne Baker Field for their home opener against Western Oregon on Friday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
