ASHLEY INGRAM RECEIVES WBCA ALL-AMERICA HONORABLE MENTION
For the first time in 32 years, a Texas Woman's basketball student-athlete has been recognized on a Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-American team.
Ashley Ingram, a sophomore forward from Bridgeport, Texas, received 2023 WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches' All-America honorable mention.
Ingram led the Pioneers in points per game, averaging 14.3, and in efficiency, shooting 51.7% from the field. She started 28 of the Pioneers' 30 games and also led TWU on the boards with 6.8 rebounds per game. She also recorded eight double-doubles this season.
Following the conclusion of her sophomore season, Ingram currently ranks 19th on the TWU All-Time Career Points List with 822 career points, and she is tied for ninth on the TWU All-Time Blocks List with 53 career blocks.
During her sophomore campaign, Ingram was named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Player of the Year, All-Lone Star Conference First Team, All-LSC Academic Team, LSC All-Tournament Team, College Sports Communicators Academic All-District and D2CCA All-South Central Region First Team.
Ingram becomes the first Pioneer to be named to the WBCA All-America Team since Peggy Allen McCoy in 1991, when the award was the WBCA/Kodak All-America Honor.
"Ashley solidified herself as a dominant post player in our region," TWU Head Coach Beth Jillson said. "Every night, she faced double teams and sometimes triple teams and still shot over 50% from the field on over 200 attempts. Ashley's success is a true testament to her commitment to working hard and bring her best for her team every single day. I know she is ready to get back to work in the offseason already. I am so proud of her and her hard work always."
Every year members of the WBCA vote for the All-America teams. The players receiving the highest number of votes from each region are recognized as All-America finalists. Then, a committee of WBCA member coaches selects the Coaches' All-America teams.
