There were eight American Indian students enrolled in Ponder ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 20% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Ponder ISD schools welcomed 1,640 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.5% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Ponder ISD roughly covers schools within Denton County and has a main office in Ponder.

Among the three schools in Ponder ISD schools, Ponder High School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of four students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
